Year 6
Merlin and Osprey classes
Welcome to Year 6
In Year 6, we study a diverse range of themes and high-quality texts including Skellig by David Almond, Street Child by Berlie Doherty and The Viewer by Shaun Tan.
Alongside this curriculum, the children receive weekly outdoor learning, Computing, JIGSAW (PSHE), French and PE. Throughout the year, they also learn Design & Technology and Art inspired by the termly themes.
As a school, we are committed to celebrating inclusion and diversity throughout the year: we celebrate Black History Month, Disability History Month, Safer Internet Day, Children’s Mental Health Week and British Science Week to name a few! In Year 6, we have sensitive and mature class discussions during these celebrations to ensure that our children leave Moorlands as well-rounded, empathetic and open-minded individuals.
Year 6 is a very exciting time for trips, beginning the year off with a trip to the Life Skills centre, which is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn life skills they can implement in their life outside school. Year 6 children also have the opportunity to attend a week-long residential trip as a final celebration of all their achievements at primary school with their classmates and teachers.
We encourage all children to Achieve their Best, in line with our LEARN Values, and ask that the children do their personal best in everything they do.
Year 6 is the perfect opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the huge personal and academic progress that every child has made.
We aim to equip all our children to leave Moorlands as confident, self-assured, inquisitive and kind members of their community.
