We see our community as a Moorlands Family of which children are at the centre.
We offer Moorlands Children lots of opportunities to take part in school life and make a difference to the school community.
We have a school council who are elected by their class mates and who represent the views of their class and the whole school. They hold regular meetings with updates being shared with their class. Pupil voice is then fed into the senior leadership team to help shape the future of our school.
We encourage all children in our federation to take on roles and responsibilities and provide them with lots of opportunities to do so. Each child in Moorlands belongs to a house. Our Houses were the result of a competition at the school and are Emerald, Diamond, Ruby and Sapphire. Our winning pupil chose gems because
“we are all priceless and precious like jewels and we all shine”
Children can collect house points for individual achievements and the House with the most points gets a ‘treat’ at the end of the year. Children from our Year 6 group act as House Captains. We have a Federation Sports Day every year and children work together in their house teams.
We also have a Green Team of Moorlands ‘Eco Warriors’ made up of representatives from each class. Their aim is to tackle a range of issues, making our schools an even better and more sustainable environment and helping us work towards our Silver Eco Schools Award. We have recycling centers situated at different points around the school and pupils are encouraged to recycle their paper plastic and food waste.
