Year 5

Kestrel and Owl classes

Welcome to Year 5

As some of the oldest children in the school, we encourage children in Year 5 to Lead By Example and be role models for the younger children. The children are engaged in a great variety of themes:

Term 1: Can changes be reversed? (Science: Materials)

Term 2: Savages or civilised? What were the Aztecs really like? (History)

Term 3: What is in the solar system? (Science: Space)

Term 4: How were the Vikings influenced by the Anglo-Saxons? (History)

Terms 5 & 6: What skills do geographers need to have? (Geography)

Each theme is linked to a high quality text including Wonder by RJ Palacio, Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce and The Explorer by Katherine Rundell.

In Year 5 the children learn both collaboratively and independently and are encouraged to be determined to achieve their very best. Learning skills are used to find out more about the world around us, focusing on how we can make a difference in our class, our school and our community. The children respect everyone and everything by looking after resources and being kind, helpful and courteous.
